Collection: Laura Sheridan

She received a BFA from the university of Georgia Athens, concentrating in drawing and oil painting, primarily the human figure.  After graduating and a move to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where her figure studies, combined with a deep love of trees, influenced her creative direction.  She began painting trees of the southwest with their steadfast presence, strong trunks, and sinewy branches touched her soul. She hiked the mountain trails with her sketchbook in hand and did graphite studies of all the trees, then painted them on huge canvases later in my little Casita on Canyon Road.   Residing in Asheville now for many years and still a lover of oil painting she has been wildly attracted to the exquisite transparency of watercolors.  She illustrated her first book in watercolors in 2013 and much of her current work is in watercolor. Her inspiration comes from nature, hiking in the woods, sitting by creeks watching dragon flies and butterflies, visiting her friends farm animals, growing heirloom roses and hanging out in her backyard with her dogs, cats and 13 chickens. Taking time to notice the subtle nuances of the life around her enriches and informs the art she creates.
