Collection: Fred Pirlot
Fred Pirlot, born in Spain, raised a little in Togo, a little more in France, a tiny bit in England, the rest in the US, Fred Pirlot isn’t really from anywhere in particular. He is currently based in Brooklyn, New York, he’s actually just wandering around aimlessly an international man of mystery who speaks three languages and has two or three nationalities, something like that. He studied sociology at one point and still finds humans to be quite fascinating, but instead of making good use of his study, he became a graphic designer, which kind of makes sense since he’s always been an artist by nature who likes to paint on walls, mostly on other people‘s property. His approach to painting canvases, which tends to be meticulous and photo realistic is very different from his mural work. His graphic design training often shows its influence in his paintings, as does his interest in photography. His preferred pallet is black-and-white and he likes to play with negative space, contrast, cropping and composition to suggest moods and meanings to the viewer. His subject matter usually has some personal meeting, but most often remains intentionally vague, attempting to create a personal impact on viewers by encouraging their own interpretation of each work.
